Recycling Categories

Following material groups can be recycled at curbside collection or depot drop off:

  • Newspaper (flyers and inserts)
  • Telephone Books
  • Magazine and Catalogues (including glossy paper)
  • Office Paper (bond paper, envelopes, kraft paper, etc.)
  • Shredded Office Paper
  • Boxboard (cereal boxes, laundry detergent boxes, toy boxes, shoe boxes, etc.)
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Steel/Tin Cans (no need to remove labels)
  • Glass Jar and Bottles (liquor bottles and glass jars) (Please remove all lids)
  • Gable top beverage cartons (Milk, milk products and juice cartons)
  • Tetra Pak Containers (Beverage  Containers)
  • Styrofoam (Drop off at Depot during office hours)

 

  • PET #1 Plastic (soft drink bottles, some food and personal care product containers)
  • HDPE #2 Plastic containers (milk jugs, some food and personal care products)
  • LDPE #4 Plastic (containers and lids from margarine, yogurt and other food products)
  • PP #5 Plastic (Margarine, yogurt and other food products)
  • #7 Plastic containers (Ketchup, syrup, margarine containers, etc)

ALL containers should be rinsed and the caps loosened.

 

Acceptable Materials for Residential and Commercial Drop Off Only:

  • TVs and Radios
  • Computer Monitors (CRT & flat-panel displays)
  • Desktop Computers (CPU/Hard drive, mice, keyboard and cables)
  • Laptops
  • Desktop Printers
  • DVD Players/VCRs/Steroes
  • Phones
  • Scanners/Copiers/Fax Machines
  • Rechargeable Batteries
  • Microwaves
  • Batteries Ex. Household batteries, rechargeable, vechile, lawnmower, ATV, etc
  • Ink Cartridges
  • Oil, containers, filters & antifreeze
  • Paint cans and Aerosol cans now accepted only for residential

Portage Recycling now offers paper shredding. Cost is $20.00 an hour. This is a great way to destroy important old financial documents in a safe environment.  Call for more details.
